Who We Are
You are now 104km from the Thailand border of Poipet, and 160km from Siem Reap in the north west of Cambodia. Banteay Chhmar is home to a massive temple complex, much of which still remains a mystery.
The tented camping experience is provided by the ‘Banteay Chhmar Community Based Tourism’ The concept is to give you a personal, tranquil experience in the company of Banteay Chhmar temple, a 12th century ancient structure built by King Jayavaraman VII. Spend the night in the company of this mystical ancient building as the Khmer people would have done almost a 1000 years ago.
Enjoy the experience of staying under the shadow of the temple, free to stroll around the grounds, study the detailed bas – reliefs on the temple walls, giving an insight into local life all those years ago.
Visit Banteay Chhmar is the local community based tourism organization, set up by the commune chief and officials to try to bring alternative livelihoods to a labour intensive farming community, giving some of the local people an alternative job to farming. This initiative teaches the local people more skills, and presents the opportunity to meet guests from different parts of the world.
Despite being very close to the border and previously suffering from tension with neighbouring Thailand the locals are a peaceful, welcoming, open people and relish the opportunity to show their community to the world.
This camping experience shows you the local activities and tours in the area so that you can get to know the community, temple complex and scenery, with so much to experience in one very magical community.
Both the community and Visit Banteay Chhmar hope that you enjoy your stay with us for this unique experience.
